Current Rear Wheel, Cassette, & Tire Install

Objective: To install the Current Rear Wheel, Cassette, and Tire.

Equipment Needed:

1. 6mm hex wrench
2. Tire tools
3. Bike pump
4. Chain whip
5. Cassette lockring tool
6. Torque wrench

1. Power Off the Bike

   1. With the assist on "OFF", carefully pedal the bike and shift the rear derailleur to the highest gear or the smallest cog.

 

2. Press and hold the power button to turn off the bike.

3.  tilt back the derailleur cage and engage the lock button to relieve the chain tension.

2. Remove the Rear Wheel

1. Use a 6mm hex wrench to loosen and remove the rear thru axle. Remove the rear wheel from the bike.

3. Remove the Tire and Tube

1. Remove the valve cap followed by the valve stem nut. Unthread the presta valve tip and press down to release the air pressure. Continue releasing pressure while pushing down on the tire and pressing the bead off the rim as you work your hands around the wheel.

2. Once the tire bead is released on both sides, use your tire tools to lift the bead all the way around one side.

3. Remove the tube from the inside of the tire.

4. Remove the tire from the wheel.

4. Swap the Tire and Tube

5. Install the Tire and Tube

1. Ensure the tire is installed with the tread facing the correct direction, as shown.

2. Align the tire manufacturer's logo to the valve stem hole on the wheel. Install the tire by working the bead onto the rim.

3. re-inflate the tube just enough for it to take shape and then install it into the open end of the tire on the wheel.

4. Once the tube is seated, work the outer bead of the tire onto the rim to fully mount the tire. Install the tire using your hands as much as possible and use tire tools as needed. Be careful not to pinch the tube in the process.

5. Inflate the tube to 20-40psi using a pump with a presta valve head or use a presta valve adapter. Ensure the tire bead is fully seated all around the wheel on both sides.

6. Thread the presta valve head closed, replace the valve stem nut, and replace the valve cap.

6. Remove the Cassette

1. Use a chain whip to hold the cassette and then use a cassette lockring tool to loosen the cassette by turning counterclockwise. Once fully unthreaded, lift the cassette off of the wheel's hub.

7. Swap the Cassette

1. Apply a thin layer of grease to the freehub. Install the new cassette onto the freehub. Align the splines of the hub to the corresponding inner splines of the cassette.

2. Use the cassette lockring tool to thread the cassette onto the freehub by turning clockwise. If you feel significant resistance, unthread and re-seat the cassette to ensure you are not crossthreading the lockring to the freehub. Torque to 40Nm.

8. Install the Rear Wheel

1. Replace the rear wheel into the frame dropouts. Ensure the rotor goes in between the brake pads and the cassette captures the chain on the smallest cog.

2. Apply grease to the threads of the rear thru axle and then reinstall the axle to capture the wheel. Tighten the rear thru axle using a 6mm hex wrench. Torque to 10-16Nm.

3. Rock the derailleur cage forward until the lock button disengages and then slowly release the cage to retension the chain.

9. Power the Bike On
   1. With the bike upright, press and hold the power button to turn on the bike.

2. Pedal the bike with the support level off and shift through the gears to ensure proper operation.
