Objective:
To install the Current Mid Drive Motor.
Equipment Needed:
- 2mm hex wrench
- 3mm hex wrench
- 4mm hex wrench
- 5mm hex wrench
- 8mm hex wrench
- Crank Puller (Park Tool CCP-44 or similar)
- Outer Spline BB Tool (TL-FC39 or Park Tool LRT-2 or similar)

Torque wrench
- Power Off the Bike
- Open the Lower Motor Cover

Remove the Crankset

Remove the drive-side crank bolt with an 8mm hex wrench, turning it counterclockwise.

To remove the crank arm, thread in the crank puller to the crank arm. Thread in the crank puller until it stops, begin to turn the inner stud by turning the outer handle clockwise to press the crank off of the spindle.

Use a 4mm hex wrench to remove the two bolts securing the chain guide. Adjust the chainring position to access each bolt as needed. Remove the chain guide.

Remove the Chainring

Use the TL-FC39 (Park Tool LRT-2) on the chainring's center lockring. Hold the chainring in place and rotate the lockring clockwise to loosen. The lockring is reverse threaded. Remove the lockring.

Tilt the derailleur cage forward, press in the locking button, and remove tension from the chain.

Remove the chain from the chainring, as shown below

Remove the chainring.

The non-drive side crank bolt is reverse threaded. Remove the non-drive side crank bolt by turning it clockwise with an 8mm hex key.

Proceed to repeat the same crank removal steps used for the drive side.

- Remove the Side Motor Cover

Remove the Mid Drive Motor

Use a 5mm hex wrench to loosen and remove the 6 motor mounting bolts. Note: Use a 4mm hex wrench to slightly loosen the lower motor cover pivot bolt to ease pressure on the motor to frame interface.

Carefully lift the motor from the frame to access the cable connections. Disconnect the main terminal plug by pinching the buckle to release the plug.

Disconnect the remaining three round plugs by gripping the cable end and pulling straight down. Lift out the motor with both hands. Note: The Current EXP will have an additional cable plugged into the black port for the rear derailleur power connection.

Swap the Mid Drive Motor

Install the Mid Drive Motor

Reconnect the corresponding cables. Make sure the colors correspond, the arrows align, and the plugs snap into place. Note: For Currrent EXP remember to reattach the rear derailleur power cable to the remaining black port on the mid drive unit.

Carefully guide the motor back into the opening of the frame, ensuring no cables are crushed or pinched.

Reinstall the 6 motor mounting bolts with a 5mm hex wrench, pre-thread all 6 bolts.

Fully tighten each with a torque of 25N.m Note: Be sure to re tighten the lower motor cover pivot bolt at this step.

Replace the side motor cover and hardware using the 2mm hex wrench.

- Install the Left Crank Arm

Install the Chainring

Reinstall the chainring and the lockring using your Park Tool LRT-2. Apply a small amount of grease to the lockring threads and thread it on by hand. The lockring is reverse threaded; tighten it by turning the lockring counter-clockwise. Hold the chainring firmly with your left hand and do not let it rotate. Fully tighten the lockring to a torque of 30-35N.m

Replace the chain onto the chainring and then release the tension on the derailleur by rocking it forward until the cage can be released.

Install the Right Crank Arm

Reinstall the right crank arm with the remaining crank bolt marked with an “R”. Ensure to clock the crank arm 180 degrees opposite the other crank arm's orientation.

Reinstall the right side crank bolt (standard thread) and tighten it to a torque of 45-50N.m.

Plug the terminal cable back into the battery port and then lock it in place by turning the terminal lock counterclockwise.

- Install the Chain Guide
- Power On the Bike
